20120831 Excited moments - 1

I shot some pictures on Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. This is a place with many flagship brand stores, which attracts a lot of visitors from the mainland. Photographed here (Photos 1 and 2) are tourists taking photographs in front of the stores. I think when they got a few good pictures they shared their excitement by looking at them, attracting the eyes of people passing by. To me, the funniest moment was their astonishment when they found out that there was a guy behind them recording all of their happy moments (Photo 4).

20120829 Hard-working woman - 1

In my previous blog, I talked about a fruit market in Yau Ma Tei. I mentioned that delivery men there start their work early, at around 4 a.m. Well, but their work never ends. I always go to this market for candid photos and I always get different pictures because the scenes have many variations under different weather conditions. I spent an afternoon there but I find that night scenes are much more interesting. You can find delivery men all around at night (Photos 1 and 2), but even more shocking was the hard-working old woman in the stalls (Photo 3).

20120824 Test shots with the Canon 5D MK III - 1

I took my Canon 5D MK III out for some test shots. Photo 1 here is my favorite. In fact, floral shots are always the first choice on my list of favorites. A good floral shot depends very much on the light that shines on it. A macro lens as well as a macro flash light can give you desirable lighting effects, but it is more satisfying if you can capture the flowers with graceful, ambient light. Photo 1 was shot using natural light. It shows you the dynamic range of the camera and what it can achieve. The tones are realistic and true to the originals. It also presents a high level of detail. Highlighted details are maintained without burning out. Photo 2 was shot in the busy street of Causeway Bay in Hong Kong. Look at all the colors, depth, and the details presented in the picture. It is awesome. The skin tone is quite realistic.

Rainy day blues

20120822 Rainy day blues - 1

Shooting photographs in the rain can be fun if you can find shelter and wait for desirable scenes. I was having my breakfast before the rain started on the day of the shoot. All of a sudden, it began pouring down rain. I quickly finished my meal and went out of the café to watch the scene. I had shelter so I could wait and watch to see what I could capture as cars kept passing in front of me. It turned out that a delivery man did what he would normally do (Photo 2) except that he wore a raincoat for the occasion, while some left their bicycles and stuff in the rain (Photo 1). Later that morning, I walked past a sheltered market and took some more pictures.
