20110225 Man to man_Cactus v5 - 1

Some of my friends commented that this photo was rather freaky. I admit that and think it is due to the cool light tone and over-exposure, which happens to be my exact intention.

I placed a foldable soft box (key light) to the left of my subject, Woody, and another flash (without filter) to his right as fill light. You can see the rim light (fill light) appearing on Woody’s right cheek. Anyway, the image in the mirror is not the focus here; his back is.

20110222 Stone Slab Street - shots

These photos were taken on Christmas Eve, with ambient light on “Stone Slab Street” in Hong Kong’s Central District, the place where you can find trendy products and gifts for different occasions. There were many shoppers, especially young people going hand in hand to buy holiday presents. I did not hunt for these photos; rather, it just so happened that these people stopped by my side, so I shot them on impulse.

20110218 Sushi rolls

Everybody likes to take food photos when eating, right? Umm…you know for sure that lighting is so important to a dish in order to sell, it is natural to see light boxes in sushi bars showing their dishes under flickering lights. The shots in fact are not really special, without eye-catching highlight or so, yet people keep looking at the light boxes.

Anyway, I just tried to share my view that food shots nowadays are shot with much less creativity, where food is normally captured just to present a normally exposed dish, with very little emphasis on creating different light zones or shade areas.
